“Oh wow, you’re gonna have a ball – think of all the places you can explore, it’s gonna be so cool man – I’m so jealous for you!!” … a friend said when I told her I was moving from the UK to Amsterdam.
‘Yeah!” I replied ” It’s going to be brill!”…
Only ‘brill’ isn’t really a word I use too often, I was mainly saying that because she’s one of those cursively cool and trendy expats for whom every adventure and experience seems effortless. I am a reluctant explorer you see – happy to browse a book or magazine whilst curled on the sofa sipping a cup of tea thinking of things to do. In fact, I’m actually great at thinking of things to do, coming up with ideas and making a list … I’m just rotten at going and doing them!
With the New Year comes a new challenge for me (to add to the list), and it’s going to incorporate some of my favourite things: my iPhone, Foursquare, and quite possibly a glass of wine or two along the way. I’m going to use these long old lists of mine and start going places, and as I’m going to be checking in via Foursquare as I go you will be able to follow my progress.
So, as I dig deeper into my guide books, rummage through my browser history and locate all those scraps of paper with a scribbled recommendation, I shall very much be thinking of where to go next. I need a bit of pressure you see, so I’m telling you, my trusted bloggettes, tweeps and followers that I am going to start exploring! If you’re the exploring type, or even a local you can follow my lists on Foursquare, and if there’s somewhere you’ve been meaning to go, or want to see, let me know and I’ll check it out for you!
